M.P. Borse with the prize-winning project, “Eco-Friendly Satellite”.

Science exhibition was organised by the Education Department of North Brihanmumbai at Bhandup People’s Education Society High School from 3rd to 5th December, 2003.

Udayachal High School (UHS) participated in the exhibition and prepared projects for the Senior as well as the Junior groups. The project, “Eco-Friendly Satellite”, was highly appreciated and awarded the first prize for its theme and the third prize for overall projection. Guidance on this project was given by our teachers, M.P. Borse and Geeta Naik.

 

All-encompassing Beauty of the Earth

atish R. Dhurat, Teacher of UHS, has prepared a handy, portable and unique model, thus bagging the first prize at the “S” Ward Teaching Aids Exhibition and the second prize at the District Level Teaching Aid Competition. The Aid is relevant in teaching geographical phenomena to students from Standards V to X.

Some of its prominent features are:

  • Perceive the shape of the earth

  • Explain the formation of day and night

  • Depict the planets in the solar system

  • Present a satellite view of the contours of the earth

  • View the cross-section of the earth’s interior

  • Indicate the percentage of distribution of land and water mass

  • Divide the earth into temperature zones

  • Indicate the structure of the atmosphere that envelops the earth

  • Explain the hydrological cycle and types of rainfall (relief rain and convectional rain)

  • Simplify the explanation of the phases of the moon

  • Study the phenomena of revolution and rotation, and their effects on the cycle of seasons

  • Make a comparative study of the solar and lunar eclipses

  • Show the interdependence of components of the biotic world with the help of the “Food Chain”

  • Highlight the need to conserve forest and wildlife with the help of the “Food Pyramid”

The Aid also consists of additional aluminum rings, which can be used to show latitudes, longitudes, and the axis of the earth and the poles.

The base of the Teaching Aid can be used to teach the concept of Directions: North, South, East and West.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to state that this Teaching Aid created by Dhurat is a mine of information to students of Geography.

Some More “S” Ward
Level Prizes

UHS teacher Jayasheela Agadi has won the first prize for the Best Teaching Aid in Mathematics for the year 2003-2004. Her topic was “Symmetry”, a model presentation for Standard VIII.

 

Another UHS teacher Radhika Khawanekar has bagged the first prize for the Best Teaching Aid in Science for the year 2003-2004. The topic was “Magic of Light”.

 

 

 

 

"Mangal Deepam"

HS students participated in an Inter-School Indian Folk Dance Competition organised by the Lions Club of Vidyavihar. Their sterling performance, “Mangal Deepam”, made them the Second Runners-Up. That apart, teacher Ramadevi did a hat trick! She was awarded the Best Teacher In-Charge for the third consecutive year at this Competition.


Ramadevi and her students are all smiles on receiving the Second Runners-Up prize from the Chief Guest.

Scout Master
Basic Training

esley Subba, Physical Training Instructor of UHS, attended the Bharat Scout/Guide Training camp held at the State Education Centre, Songir, District Dhule from 10th to 19th December, 2003. The Scout Master Basic Training course consisted of theory and practical sessions on the following topics:

  • History of Scouts

  • Signals of Scoutmaster

  • Lashing and Knots

  • Baden Powell Exercises

  • First Aid

  • Recreational Games

  • Songs, etc.

For Lesley, it was a good learning experience.

 

 

Our Students Make Us Proud

 

UHS students Reshma Menon (Standard IX) and Shweta Pandey (Standard VII) were awarded the second and third prizes, respectively, at the Inter-School Elocution Competiton at the “S” Ward level.

here is no dearth of achievers in Udayachal, and Ayantika Aich of Standard VIII E D is one among them. Ayantika participated in the India Book House Quiz held at Yeshwantrao Chavan Pratishthan Auditorium on 17 November, 2003, and bagged the first prize, a cash award of Rs. 2,000, and a set of Tinkle Digest. Anant Pai, Editor, Tinkle Books, bestowed upon her the honour of releasing the The Anu Club magazine, a collection of Anu Club stories from Tinkle. Nearly 290 students from 65 different schools across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane took part in this Quiz.

Ayantika is an avid reader and quizzing is her passion. Here’s wishing her many more laurels in the future. We are proud of you.

Udayachal High School (UHS) Principal Evangeline Ranjan felicitates Anupama R. of Standard VIII E for securing a prize in the “Highly Commended” category of the Commonwealth Essay Competition.

 

Dattatray D. Raut (Standard IX E), winner of the Best Platoon Commander’s Trophy at the Central (Inter-School) R.S.P. Rally on 9 January, 2004.

The Udayachal R.S.P. Girls and Boys Platoon, which won the first prize in the Zonal and Central R.S.P. Rally, were selected to participate in the Governor’s Republic Day Parade at Shivaji Park, Mumbai.

Savira Rodrigues, daughter of Constantino Rodrigues, Paint Shop Department, Plant 17, has won the following medals in the Annual Sports of her school, the St. Joseph’s High School, Vikhroli:

  • 400 m.Running: Gold Medal

  • High Jump:Gold Medal

  • Long Jump: Silver Medal

  • Trophy for Championship and Best Athlete of the year 2003-2004

CHANGE congratulates Savira for winning this trophy for the second consecutive year.

Mahendra G. Panchal, Ex-student of UHS, was adjudged the first prizewinner of the 11th All-India Essay Competition on Road Safety in the Gujarati language. He has been awarded Rs. 5,000 along with a trophy and Certificate of Merit.

Abhijeet Joshi, son of UHS Art teacher Charudatta Joshi, stood first in the Civil and Architectural Draughtsman Examination. Soon after giving the S.S.C. Examination, Abhijeet utilised his free time wisely to do this course. He was the youngest in his class.

mkar M. Sawant, son of Mohan T. Sawant, Vice President, Godrej & Boyce Shramik Sangh, is passionate about playing football. Omkar started playing the game at the age of nine, when studying at the Bhonsala Military School, Nasik, in Standard V. A year later, he became the youngest player in his School team and played at the State level. He progressed to become Vice Captain at the State level semi-finals and Captain at the District level. And, all this in the under 14 category! By the time Omkar reached Standard X, he had become Vice Captain at the State level and was a runner-up in the under 17 category. He got selected for the National team (representing Maharashtra State) and played the Indian Public School Conference Tournament at the National level. His team also participated in the Subroto Mukerjee Cup at the National level played at Delhi.

Omkar joined the K.J. Somaiya College football team as its Vice Captain and stood third in an inter-college football game the next year.

He then joined the S.K. Somaiya College. Omkar soon got selected to play for Mumbai University and became the winner of the West Zone Championship held at Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He reached the quarter-final stage in the All-India Championship.

Presently, Omkar is pursuing Computer Science (Standard F.Y.B.Sc.) and, at the same time, he plays for the Wenden Institute (Kenkre Academy), Parel, in the First Division.

CHANGE wishes him all the very best in not only winning the All-India Championship, but excelling at the international football level as well.
