SECURITY EQUIPMENT DIVISION

How Burglars Were Foiled

he popular Godrej Defender Plus range of safes has always been a brand to reckon with in the category of fire and burglar-resistant safes. It currently enjoys a 75 per cent market share and has almost become generic in its category. Three out of every four safes bought in India are Godrej safes.

Continuing with its endeavour of constantly adding value to its products, the Security Equipment Division tested its latest Defender Plus Class “A?safe for the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) rating in the presence of top BIS officials and some key customers from the Air Force and The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited.

With Godrej passing this test successfully, our Defender Plus range becomes the widest range of safes listed with the BIS today.

But there’s more exciting news. Underestimating the quality of the Godrej Class 1 Defender Door, which was installed in the mid-eighties, at Nepal Bank Ltd., Lahan Branch, some burglars in Nepal tried a massive burglary attack, but in vain. They used an improvised bucket bomb at floor level and a pressure cooker bomb on the handle of the door to rip the door open. All they managed to rip off was the pivot, the door handle, the pilot wheel and the keyhole covers. The door slab, of course, caved in due to the impact of the bucket bomb, but the door didn’t break open. Failing this, the burglars tried to dig the RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) wall! Hearing the noise, some locals came rushing at the scene and the burglars made a quick escape. The Defender Door once again bears testimony to Godrej’s commitment to quality.

Congratulations!

.M. Vaidya has been promoted from General Manager and Business Head to Vice President  and Business Head of Aerospace Division with effect from 1 January, 2004.

Vaidya joined Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. in 1987 as Technologist in the Welding Department of the Process Equipment Division. With wide access to manufacturers all over the world, he set up a team of engineers and a state-of-the-art infrastructure for manufacturing import substitute reactors, vessels for petrochemical, fertilizers and chemical plants. His strong metallurgical background helped Vaidya in expanding the scope of the Welding Department to metal forming and surface technologies.

Vaidya says, proudly: “This was the beginning into the hi-tech Aerospace field. Working with close tolerances, exotic material and small safety margins forced us to optimise in all the processes, especially in quality, documentation and calibration standards. For completeness of the product, simulations and testings were the major challenges that our team successfully completed, amazing the rest of the world about India’s indigenous space programmes. It gave me a tremendous amount of satisfaction when we were acknowledged, “From Locks To Launch Vehicles?for our efforts. Today, we have set up a unique and fully integrated manufacturing setup to fulfil the vision of our Hon’ble President of India?

Commitment, love, transparency and dedication have helped Vaidya in leading his team professionally, in exploring the infinite space around us.

CHANGE wishes him good luck and success in all his future endeavours.
